The constant mainstream media's magnification of news events is becoming exhausting.
It's the proverbial one-trick-pony. Pick a news event and ride it till there's nothing left! Whether it’s a 'mega-global-pandemic' of swine flu or the '‘total meltdown of the world economy', it becomes difficult for us mere mortals to understand the severity of situations when superlatives are used at every turn.
From the travel industry perspective, two things are evident. One, time teaches us that rash moves such as cancellations or unnecessary changes often have related costs that can be generally avoided by remaining calm. Two, staying at home is not any safer than travelling to a well-researched destination with proper planning done by a travel professional.
At the risk of appearing callous or unconcerned to the present state of events, don't let 'media hype' govern your travel decisions.
